About Us
HelloAs this years Chairman of the Chelmsford & District Sub-Aqua club and an enthusiastic instructor, I'm happy to welcome you to the latest version of our website.
We are an active scuba diving club and Branch 0306 of the British Sub-Aqua Club, based in central Essex , just look at the Dive Programme under diving in the club to see for yourself just how active. We have a very busy schedule with diving aimed to give our new trainees some experience, diving to excite and entertain the experienced divers and a few dives to get some adrenaline flowing for our more experienced, qualified and adventurous members. Hopefully Something for everyone. Have a look at the Reports & Photos section to see what we have been up to. We organise a number of week, weekend and day boat dives over the year with the main season starting in April and running through to October.
The club was formed in 1970, we currently have about 85 members of which about 70 are active divers who range in experience from newly qualified Ocean Divers to Trimix and Rebreather divers. They range in age from teenagers to divers in their seventies and come from all walks of life.We meet twice a week both socially and for training. On Tuesdays at the Crown in Sandon for theory lessons, chat and of course the odd drink and on Fridays at Riverside Ice & Leisure in Chelmsford for our pool night. Our Tuesday venue will change to the Two brewers in Springfield road from 6th July
The club actively trains members both for the diving qualifications and Skill Development Courses such as Oxygen Administration, Defibbrillator Use, Boat Handling, Nitrox and a whole host of other courses we can teach in house, not to mention supporting anyone interested in instructor training with plenty of 'constructive' critisism and plenty of hands on practice.
The club also actively encourages divers trained by other agencies to come and dive with us to the extent of their qualifications, and, if they wish, continue their training with BSAC.
Besides our main diving activities members are also involved with Chelmsford Underwater Archaeological Unit and Chelmsford Octopush Club.
Apart from diving we are very active socially with regular meetings and many organised social events such as parties, theatre and show trips, non-diving holidays. Our Annual Dinner Dance is a fantastic event with 90 attendees this year. See our Social page for more idea of what else we do.
